Mattress and pregnancy - quality without compromise

Although pregnancy is a special time for every women, it is often associated with lack of sleep and considerable discomfort. The list of potential problems is quite long - pain in the spine, more and more difficulties with finding the right sleeping position due to a growing tummy, leg cramps, weight gain.

Today, at LPUR Academy, we will look for answers to the question of how to sleep during pregnancy, what mattress will be the best for a pregnant woman and what to consider when choosing it. Pregnancy is associated with a series of changes in the body, although many women experience them in a different way. Eating habits, for example, also change, and sleep habits themselves - inevitably undergo some modifications. With the growing belly, it is more and more hard to find comfortable and proper position to sleep and rest.

After all, rest is very important for the proper development of a child! Best sleeping position during pregnancy, suffering from aching, tense back, which is most often a symptom of weight gain and baby development, is - according to many experts - to sleep on the left side, which facilitates the supply of blood and nutrients to the baby and the placenta, and it also allows to minimize the risk of compression of the vena cava by the fetus (this vein is on the right side).

That advice, of course, applies to the months when the pregnancy begins to be visible and the gain is noticeable, so in the second and third trimesters of pregnancy. In the first one, there are no contraindications for sleeping on the stomach or back, but the larger the fetus, the more uncomfortable and dangerous it is for both the baby and the mother herself. To prevent painful cramps from attacking your legs, it's a good idea to bend your knees and place a pillow between them. Contrary to appearances, sleeping on your side is not as difficult as it may seem and getting used to it comes easy!

Provided you choose a good mattress, of course. We will be happy to tell you about it! Let's start with the issue that for future mothers is of great importance – safety. One thing where there is absolutely no room for compromise. The mattress should be made of the highest quality components that do not sensitize, do not promote the formation of bedsores and guarantee proper support for the entire spine.

It is good especially when the mattress components provide breathability and allow heat and moisture to leave. The excess of heat and moisture promotes the development of mites or fungi, which, especially during pregnancy, can be dangerous for the body of both the woman and the child. Since we already know that safety is the key, we cannot forget about the flexibility and springiness of the mattress. Both of these features significantly translate into sleep quality. Flexibility guarantees a perfect adjustment to the body position, while elasticity supports the body in all its key points - from the legs, through the back to the shoulders and the cervical section.

Remember that regeneration during sleep should aim to relieve the muscles as much as possible. When the mattress does not provide sufficient "support" for the body, the muscles naturally tighten and thus, we achieve the opposite effect - instead of relaxing, we get tension! Nobody wants to get tired while resting. Buying the right mattress is a very important step towards increasing the comfort of a pregnant woman, but not the only one - it is also worth remembering to follow a few universal and simple advice.

This, of course, is to minimize our exposure to stressful situations, which are accompanied by anxiety, making it difficult to fall asleep; You should also not be afraid of physical exercise, which improves blood circulation and prevents leg cramps. Finally - keeping a proper diet, without caffeine and products that are spicy and acidic, which can promote gastroesophageal reflux, leading to unpleasant heartburn.

It is also worth giving up a meal shortly before going to bed, because during pregnancy it can also lead to the aforementioned burning of the stomach. Needless to say, it makes it harder to fall asleep, right? Proper hydration is also necessary, but here we warn you again: it is not worth drinking a lot of fluids before going to bed. You don't want to run to the toilet several times a night - so get up, lie down again and look for a good position! Remember: just as there is no compromise in the quality and safety of a mattress, you cannot "save" on the quality of sleep and rest. The importance of rest for the proper development of the child and your well-being is enormous and cannot be overestimated.
